George Child's Park

A friend had recommended I see George Child's Park and I'm so glad I did its such a beautiful place. Out of all the places I toured/hiked this weekend this was the best. Layers upon layers of falls and pure beauty.

And for those whom have gone "hiking" with me in the past you'll know why I loved this place beyond the beauty there were safety features! In the steep areas of the mountain along the falls were built in wood stairs with railings and "fences" to keep hikers (like me) or kids from falling! And for those of who haven't been with me as much as I LOVE to see beautiful things I hate heights and I'm usually holding on to someone during the steep areas. And my hiking is more like slowly walking in the woods taking pictures. I don't dare compare myself to my brother or people like him who can put a backpack on and just start walking into the unknown and live for days off of whatever is in my backpack. Nope, I need a bathroom and the ability to call 911 if needed! ;p  But I enjoy it and that's all that matters, right?!

This park is very family friendly with picnic tables and the ability to grill scattered throughout the start of the trail and bathrooms in the parking lot. There is a covered area with benches which was nice just to sit and hear the falls and watch/hear nature.

Philadelphia philanthropist and publisher George W. Childs dedicated it to the public in 1892, two years before his death. He wanted the public to enjoy its beauty and didn't feel that only the wealthy should enjoy land/nature. After his death, his widow donated it to the commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1912.  The abandoned mill of Brooks Woolen Mill (seen below) was already there when Child's purchased the land. A lasting reminder that our past is merely a doorway to our future.

Without stealing any further thunder from this beautiful place, I recommend it being a place you visit with your family.
